We are hearing from more and more solar system owners that their Aerosharp solar inverter is showing ‘grid volt error’ on the screen. What does this mean?
‘Grid volt error’ actually means that there is an issue with the voltage from the grid ie SA Power Networks. However if this is a permanent fault it is unlikely this is the cause. If the error is intermittent it may well be a problem with the grid power.
So what can we do to fix it?
1. Check that all the switches are on, especially the AC breakers (under the inverter and in the meterbox). If you are not sure go to reboot your solar inverter
2. Call us on 1300 130 546 and we can fix this for you.
We can often replace the fuse inside the inverter and this will fix the problem, which is a great option, however there is a good chance this will happen again, as it is known fault with Aerosharp solar inverters. (Do not attempt to open up the inverter yourself unless you are an electrician)
However in quite a few instances replacing the fuse does not fix it, and we have to replace the inverter with a new inverter.
Aerosharp are no longer in business so unfortunately no warranty exists on these inverters.
The Aerosharp is a transformer inverter, and there are now no current transformer inverters on the market in South Australia, so we will need to replace the inverter with a transformerless model. Unfortunately this is not a straightforward swap over, as we will probably have to earth the panels, and may have to upgrade the DC isolators to meet current standards. You can expect a pay a few hundred dollars on top of the inverter replacement cost, for this. If you only have a small solar system it might be time to consider replacing it with a larger system, however if you are on the high Feed In Tariff you will lose this, so make an informed decision.
